ASSA Training System

The ASSA training system has been designed for progressive athletic development in speed mechanics, acceleration and force production (strength).

Athletes can train in a solo 1 on 1 session or in groups of 2 to 5 in number when available. The greatest attention to detail is always given in the solo sessions where it is just the coach and the athlete/player and this is recommended for those with a short-term goal in focus or who want the coach all to themselves. The 2 – 5 groups are excellent for those that have team-mates or friends or brothers/sisters that they want to train with in order to push each other through the program.

Chaise (12) participates in a few sports but her passion is Netball. Her training with ASSA is designed around it being a smaller area than a field. She started training with Alex after being selected into the Representative Squad for Hawkesbury District Netball. She went on to make their 12 years State Age team and was named MVP after the 3 day Champiobships. She has now been selected into the 13 years State Age team for next year’s championships. Chaise starts high school next year and her main goal was to go to a sports high school for netball. She achieved this and will be attending the highly selective Westfield Sports High School.”

ASSA Training Program

The individual training program consists of one x 60 minute session per week face to face with the ASSA certified, accredited and experienced coach. The session will include a full warmup and cooldown in line with current sports science research-based practices.

The first few sessions will focus on technique with the aim of establishing a sound and concrete foundation upon which to build the athlete.

It is very important that training is consistent in order to progress with the skill progression. If you cannot commit to at least 8 sessions on a weekly basis then we suggest that you wait until your respective sport’s off-season when your schedule may allow the necessary training time and recovery in order to maximise your benefit from the coaching. We want you to excel in your chosen field as much as you do.

ASSA offers the following training programs for you to consider:
1. Solo or small group speed mechanics coaching technical sessions
2. Pure speed squads where speed training is conducted for repeat sprintability, speed reserve and fitness at the 2 major Sydney athletics centres.
3. School speed academies where after-school speed and agility coaching and training is performed.

The ASSA Initial Assessment Process

Athletes can enter the ASSA weekly training program directly. ASSA coaches will conduct an assessment on the current running mechanics and incorporate this into the initial training session.

It is possible to request Ranell to conduct a current running and movement assessment of your athlete prior to entering the program or for personal requirements. Having her 25 years experience in speed mechanics training will provide an incredibly deep review of your athletes’ current strengths and weaknesses. This assessment takes an hour and costs $75 per attendee (maximum of 4 in assessment group) and is held at Blacktown International Sportspark or Mason Park Homebush. We do our best to accommodate all requests based around her national and international training commitments. You will receive a Qualitative Analysis Checklist of your current movement deficiencies and home stretching and strengthening programs to remedy the issues found at that time.
